SAN ROQUE CATHEDRAL TEMPORARILY LOCKED DOWN
Dear parishioners of San Roque Cathedral in the Diocese of Kalookan,
We regret to inform you that the Caloocan City Government’s Covid-19 Command Center has ordered the temporary lockdown of the San Roque Cathedral starting on Sunday, July 25, which is supposed to be the celebration of the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly.
Two Masses will be celebrated “sine populo” that is, without congregation and live streamed: 9am and 5pm. Please click here to the for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kalookan Facebook Page.
What happened?
We had a guest priest, Fr. Manuel Jadraque, Jr of the Mission Society of the Philippines, who died a suddenly this morning. He took a Tricycle from Monumento to the Cathedral and when he arrived at the Cathedral, he was found unresponsive and very pale inside the Tricycle. He was clutching the 50-peso bill which he was going to pay the Rider. He was rushed immediately to the CCMC (Caloocan City Medical Center) and was pronounced dead on arrival.
I called the MSP superior to break the sad news to him and his fellow MSPs were shocked because he seemed very healthy when he left. He was supposed to return to Auckland, New Zealand, last May 2021, but was prevented by the travel ban due to the pandemic.
Because of earlier known instances of Covid-related heart attacks, such as the cases of Fr. Salty De la Rama SJ and Fr. Ike Ymson, MJ, I insisted on having Fr. Manuel submitted to a postmortem swab testing. What makes Fr. Manuel’s case particularly concerning is the fact that he has already been fully vaccinated with Sinovac. By the way, he was only 58 years old.
Sadly, the test result came out this evening and he was found to be positive of SARS-Cov-2. We have no way of finding out if the heart attack had been triggered by Covid despite the fact that he had been fully vaccinated already. We also do not know which strain of covid it was. We therefore asked the city government to have the lab specimen submitted for genome sequencing to find out which variant had infected Fr. Manuel.
We pray for the eternal repose of Fr. Mawe, as he is fondly called.
